When it comes to weight loss, there are a lot of options out there. But sometimes, those options don’t help in the slightest—and its these scams you have to watch out for. We’ve taken a closer look at some of them to let you know which diet programs are ones that you should probably avoid.
Sensa Products
While Sensa may promise a toned body without going to the gym, it’s not that simple. Sensa claimed that sprinkling Sensa on meals would help you lose weight without dieting and without changing your diet regime. In fact, the company promised a weight loss of 30 pounds.
With that said, there was never any scientific evidence that the product actually worked, and many consumers were given money and trips to Los Angeles for endorsing Sensa.
What to do instead: Instead, cut calories and choose foods that have more fiber. That way, you’ll feel fuller for longer and be less likely to snack in between meals.
L’Occitaine
Promising to “melt” cellulite away with their skin products, L’Occitaine is definitely a scam that you should be warry of. According to Reuters, “The FTC said L’Occitane sold two skin creams that promised ‘clinically proven slimming effectiveness’ and would ‘visibly reduce the appearance of cellulite.’ L’Occitain agreed to pay $450,000 to reimburse customers.”
What to do instead: Instead, work out regularly to help get rid of cellulite. By focusing on fat-burning exercises and focusing on muscles where cellulite has formed, you can help get rid of it.
iPant Caffeine-infused Shapewear
What’s the best way to lose weight? Definitely not the iPant. This “caffeine-infused” shapewear promised to help consumers shed cellulite and lose weight. The companies that made them, Norm Thompson Outfitters and Wacoal, were ordered to pay $230,000 and $1.3 million, respectively.
What to do instead: Begin a regular routine of working out and choose fiber-filled foods, such as lentils, peas and broccoli, rather than fattier foods. Not only will you feel fuller, but you may also lose weight.
