How Well Do Fitness Trackers Work for Weight Loss?

December 02, 2016 at 2:26 PM

Fitness Tracker for Weight LossFitness trackers can be a great tool when it comes to keeping track of your health. They can tell you your weight, track calories, and also record other data. But how well do fitness trackers work when it comes to losing weight? And are they worth buying in order to keep track of your calorie counts?

What Fitness Trackers Offer

Fitness trackers can do all sorts of things. The majority of them, though, count your steps and also can monitor your heart rate. In theory, this allows you to increase the amount of steps you take per day and, hopefully, helps you lose weight.

Of course, this means that fitness trackers are largely a monitoring system rather than a way to lose weight. And that’s exactly what one study found.

New Study on Fitness Trackers

In a recent study on fitness trackers, researchers tracked 800 adults for a year. Most of these adults wore Fitbits, and logged about 50 thousands to 70 thousand steps per week. After six months of having these Fitbits, though, the consumers didn’t show any improvement in their weight or in their blood pressure. In addition, after a year about 90 percent of these individuals stopped using their Fitbit.

What does this mean?  Using a Fitbit or other fitness tracker alone isn’t enough to lose weight and then keep it off. Instead, it’s important to have regular exercise and also to eat a healthy diet. Simply relying on a tool to help you lose weight isn’t enough. Instead, treat a Fitbit or other fitness tracker as the tool it is to help aid in your weight loss rather than relying on it entirely.

Losing Weight

When it comes to losing weight, you may want to consider a program that is customized to suit your needs. Not only will it mean that you’re getting the proper medical attention you need while losing weight, but it may also cause you to be more successful in the long run. If you’re interested in a customized program, then considering looking at the ones offered by Medical Weight Loss Solutions.
